ABOUT OUR LEGEND
We’re seeking an experienced female support worker to assist one of our Legends during a short-term support period in Torquay from 27 December to 2 January. Our Legend requires a worker who is calm, confident, and experienced in supporting participants with behaviours of concern, particularly during times of routine changes and heightened anxiety. Workers with an Australian background are preferred, and both NDIS registered and unregistered providers are welcome to pitch.
Primary Diagnoses:
Moderate Intellectual Disability
Severe Anxiety
Scoliosis
Microcephaly
Support Needs
Our Legend experiences a range of behaviours of concern, particularly during transitions, new environments, or when regular supports are unavailable. These may include:
1. Verbal Aggression
Screaming loudly
Repetitive “no, no” vocalisations
High-pitched distress sounds
2. Physical Aggression
Hair pulling (high-risk behaviour)
Scratching
Kicking or pushing
Grabbing at clothing, glasses, lanyards, or other items
Sudden grabbing of people, often unpredictable
Behaviours may escalate during changes in routine, sensory overload, or when parents are away
3. Avoidant / Escape Behaviours
Walking away or hiding
Dropping to the floor
Refusing to transition or enter/exit environments
Typically occurs when anxious, overwhelmed, or asked to leave a preferred space
4. Regressive Self-Soothing Behaviours
Removing pants
Tearing off nappy
Withdrawing or lying on the floor when highly distressed
No assessments or reports are required. Supports will be plan-managed.
pREFERRED PROVIDER TRAITS:
Female (required)
Experienced with behaviours of concern
Confident using proactive and low-arousal strategies
Calm, patient, and predictable in communication and demeanour
Sensory-aware and skilled in supporting anxiety-related escalation
Able to maintain structure and routine during holiday periods
Australian background preferred (as requested by family)
Reliable, emotionally regulated, and committed to safety
RISK CONSIDERATIONS:
High risk of hair-pulling during escalated distress
Sudden, unpredictable grabbing behaviours
Physical aggression toward staff during anxiety spikes
Increased behaviours when familiar supports (e.g., parents) are away
Requires a worker experienced in safety planning, de-escalation, and calm redirection
