Most people don't wait until something breaks before servicing their car.

They don't wait until the roof leaks before checking for damage.

The same idea can apply to your NDIS supports.

It's easy to keep doing what's familiar, especially when life is busy.

But every now and then, it's worth taking a step back and asking a simple question:

Are my current supports still helping me achieve the goals that matter most?

You don't need to wait for your next NDIS plan reassessment to reflect on how things are going. Whether you've had the same providers for years or your circumstances have recently changed, reviewing your supports can help you get more from your plan.

Sometimes you'll find everything is working well. Other times, a few small changes can make a big difference.

Start With Your Goals

Think back to when your current NDIS plan was created.

Are those goals still relevant today?

Life doesn't stand still. You might have started work, changed schools, moved house, become more independent, or experienced changes in your health or support needs.

As your life changes, your supports should change with it.

Taking a few minutes to revisit your goals is often the best place to start.

Are Your Providers Still the Right Fit?

Choosing a provider isn't a one-time decision.

The right provider should continue to understand your goals, communicate well, and adapt as your needs change.

Ask yourself:

  • Do I feel listened to?

  • Do my providers communicate with each other?

  • Are appointments reliable?

  • Am I making progress towards my goals?

  • Do I feel comfortable asking questions or raising concerns?

Good support isn't just about showing up. It's about building trust and helping you move towards the life you want.

Is Everyone Working Together?

Many Legends have several people involved in their supports.

Support Workers, therapists, Behaviour Support Practitioners, Support Coordinators, GPs, educators and family members all play different roles.

The important question isn't how many people are involved.

It's whether everyone is working together.

When providers communicate well, families spend less time repeating the same information, important updates don't get missed, and support becomes more consistent.

If communication has started to slip, it may be worth asking your Support Coordinator to organise a care team meeting or help everyone reconnect.

Are You Making the Most of Your Funding?

Understanding an NDIS plan isn't always straightforward.

It's worth checking in from time to time and asking:

  • Am I using the supports included in my plan?

  • Is any funding sitting unused?

  • Have my support needs changed?

  • Am I getting value from the services I'm receiving?

Needing to review your funding doesn't necessarily mean you need more.

Sometimes it's simply about making better use of what's already available.

If you're unsure, your Support Coordinator can help you understand how your plan is being used and identify any gaps that may need attention.

Has Anything Changed Recently?

Even small changes in life can affect the type of support you need.

For example:

  • Starting or finishing school

  • Moving house

  • Changes in health

  • A new diagnosis

  • Returning to work

  • Changes in family or caring arrangements

  • Exploring Supported Independent Living (SIL)

  • Becoming more independent

If your circumstances have changed, it's worth checking whether your supports have changed with you. .

Don't Wait Until Your Plan Review

A lot of people only think about their supports when an NDIS reassessment is approaching.

By then, it can feel rushed.

Checking in regularly means you'll already have a good understanding of:

  • What's working well

  • What isn't working

  • What evidence you've collected

  • Which goals you'd like to focus on next

It also gives your providers more time to work together before important decisions need to be made.

Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference

Reviewing your supports doesn't always mean changing providers.

Sometimes the biggest improvements come from simple things like:

  • Better communication between providers

  • Updating your goals

  • Trying a different approach

  • Scheduling regular care team meetings

  • Exploring new community opportunities

  • Adjusting how your supports are delivered

The goal isn't to change everything.

It's to make sure your supports continue to work for you.

It's Worth Checking In
